Glen and Lorna,

Congratulations, on your 50th wedding anniversary! What a milestone! I would like to get there sometime myself with Glenn. It's been great knowing the two of you and knowing you are faithful members of the church. Have a wonderful anniversary!

Glenn Barrett

Congratulations Glen and Lorna for achieving this milestone in your life!

You raised a wonderful large family that blessed Center ward while they were at home. We have been to many events together over the years.  I have been more involved with the Landon family than my wife Stephanie.  First I asked Glen to be my 1st Assistant to the High Priest Group when I was High Priest Group Leader in 1999.  So Glen, you were my right-hand man.  We worked together in our callings until 2003.  Also, for many years I was one of your home teachers.  One companion was Ian Foster.  I don't remember the others.  Maybe it was just him.  Once for a home teaching visit, Jonathan was visiting, and it was also the time for a partial eclipse of the sun.  That was not the most recent nearly full eclipse.  We went to a place in your yard to view the eclipse through special lenses.  Also Ian and I would go into your back yard and sit down at the picnic table as we talked and gave the message.  That is not happening much these days of COVID.  In your house, we found spots to sit at because there were few places to sit at with all the boxes around.  That was unique for us.  If I happen to be driving past, I look to see if Glen is working on the car because that has happened more than once.

Only Glen/Lorna and Lynn/Debbie Skidmore are the only ward members on our speed dial.  So how do you rate?  Just a few weeks ago you (Glen) helped me put together automatic hand sanitizer stations at the Stake Center.  You are better than me mechanically.  You and Russ Ferguson and I did some major raking and sweeping of the leaves at the Starcrest building last year.

Lorna was a counselor or something at West High when our sons Matthew, Ryan, Andrew and Shawn were going there.  I'm sure you helped them out.  I remember David was valedictorian.  You have raised at least two Bishops, last that I have heard.  Thank you for your friendship that we want to continue.  There are not many of us living here from the mid-1980s left in the ward (Landon, Barrett, Skidmore, Durr, Dent, Bottom).  So many others have come and gone.

See you around.

Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary!

Dear Glen and Lorna,

I remember being at your wedding reception.  What a wild ride between your reception and your 50th anniversary!  So many wonderful things have happened--your seven children would top the list.  Undoubtedly there have been some difficult and even sorrowful times, also.  Because of them, you have both grown in wisdom, strength, and faith.

Thank goodness for family reunions!  We have enjoyed being with you two and your children's families at each of them.  It's a great time to catch up with each other.  It was always fun to be at Mom's and Dad's when you were there.

I think the first time I had taco soup it was at your house.  We loved having you and your families come to Thanksgiving at our house a few times.  We were glad to be invited to your children's mission farewells and weddings.

What a great achievement this 50th anniversary is.  You have shown your family, friends, and neighbors a model of stability in marriage and family.  May your health be good so that you can celebrate a 60-year anniversary as well.

We are looking forward to future reunions and get-togethers with you and all your families.

Much love,

Laraine and Ron Nyman

Most of my memories of Aunt Lorna and Uncle Glen are from family reunions. It is great to know that they will always show up, and Aunt Lorna will always take pictures, and I will always enjoy talking with them. They are always very warm and welcoming and full of great stories.

Congrats on 50 years of marriage!! Love you both!!

Uncle Glen and Aunt Lorna,

Congratulations on a great achievement 50th Wedding Anniversary. Now I am older than you two were when we first met!  God has blessed you with so much and this is a time to reflect on those blessings.  Bernadette and I just barely passed our 20th (1997). The Izus always had a great time visiting for summer vacations. One year we even set our tent up in your backyard. We loved playing on the swings and exploring everywhere - the house, the backyard, the neighborhood. It was wonderful to see many of your family recently at Anuhea's baptism (Allyn's oldest).  May you continue with peace and happiness.

Love,
Jerry, Bernadette, Jailyn, Brendan, Julia, Brycen, Briley & Brandis!

Glen & Lorna, this marriage picture floods my mind with memories of great times in the past 50 years!

I remember Glen being nervous as a "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"  as he prepared to go out on dates with Lorna.  He would go to M, M & Gleaner Dances with her and I remember the amazing blue rimmed glasses that Lorna wore.  She was always a picture of youth and vitality & she loved to travel and do fun things.

Glen & Lorna were always patient as we would practice our music at their home with the piano and his violin.   "Turkey in the Straw" and "American Patrol"  became some of our favorite pieces and we would play them and many tunes from his Gold violin book over the years.

Both of them loved Education and I remember them living in the U apartment where we would go to visit while they worked on their many degrees and advanced training.  I wondered how many more years of classes this couple would endure.  They had kids then too, not sure how many, but it had to be demanding living in those small University apartments.

Once they bought a home and moved in, the projects began in earnest. Glen would always help us fix most anything, particularly cars and anything electronic & Lorna surely had to be patient while we devoured his hours helping us with Math problems or fixing stuff.  It always amazed me to see how frugal they were, surely remembering skinny finance days while going to College.  They  built up a lot of storage items so fewer trips to the store were needed.  Glen and Lorna were always loyal to our family events and would come to our reunions but could only stay a little while because of demanding other things like paper routes and places to go for all the kids.

They enjoyed traveling early in their marriage and I remember them going to Europe and traveling all over the place by Eurail. That was a good time to travel before heavy family responsibilities set in, but a child or two were born while they were living abroad, maybe David.  When I was in College I remember Mom going over to see & stay with them for a few weeks so she could enjoy seeing so many of the places they loved to visit.  Germany was surely a favorite since Glen had served his Mission there a few years earlier.  In later years they also loved to go see their kids in various places whether it be AZ, or Memphis TN.

As well, I remember picnics in their backyard when we would play on the swingset and admire the vegetable garden.  Many people we would meet always commented on their willingness to help others, and Church service and Auto Repairs were at the top of the demand chain.  Raising the family always had it's challenges, but everyone loved their proximity to the airport and leaving vehicles there for a day or two, surely delighting the neighbors.

Over the decades we always found good conversations and fun times together.  We are tickled to help them remember 50 years of lives wonderfully lived, and truly it is rare to see couples hang in there through thick and thin for Five decades.  Well done Glen & Lorna, we love you!

I remember Aunt Lorna’s wedding reception.  My little sister Cheryl and I were the flower girls for Aunt Lorna and Uncle Glen.  They have always been friendly to me.

When they moved to Germany, Aunt Lorna wrote me often.  I loved getting her letters, and I enjoyed learning about the German culture.  (I have since learned German in school myself, and have been to  Germany a few times as an adult.)

Happy 50th anniversary to Aunt Lorna and Uncle Glen!  May you have many more happy years together!

I have known Lorna and Glen for about 22 years, since I moved into the ward. I have always loved the testimony that they give by the way they live. They both are kind and always are interested in my well being. One year Lorna came over and bought some homemade ornaments that I painted for each of her kids. I wish them well on their 50th anniversary. It is something that has become a rarity to be married 50 years. I love them both and hope they get to spend the day with their family.

Getting to the wedding festivities for Lorna and Glen was quite an adventure for Wiley and myself. We had barely moved to St. Paul and this was our first time to use the bus system there. We had a suitcase and 3 small children to get from our apartment to the airport.

We were happy when you got your home in Salt Lake so we could see you when we made our annual trip to Utah to see extended family. Lorna always had time to visit when we came.

Now that I have moved back to Utah, it is so good to stop by or phone for a nice chat. I am glad to feel so welcome.

Here are just a couple of the many examples that I could give of my appreciation for my wonderful in-laws.

It can be quite a concern for a couple to let their precious daughter go to be with some man forever and I love Glen and Lorna for allowing this to happen in such a loving, happy way.

I appreciate all of the work Glen has done on my cars over the years and his great sense of humor while doing the work.  I remember one time while Lisa and I were dating or newlyweds, my old Geo Metro needed a new battery and after we removed the old battery, I was sitting in the car and Dad wanted to say something to me, so I rolled down the window.  He said, “Wow!  This is a mighty fancy car you have.  Usually you need a functioning battery to lower the windows, but this car has the ability to have the windows lowered without a battery even being in the car.  How much extra did you need to pay for that feature?”  I thought that was so funny and it still makes me chuckle decades later.

I appreciate how generous Lorna has been to me and our family.  Currently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Lisa has been running some errands for her, so that she can avoid being around other people.  She always gives what she calls a “little something” for gas, which in reality is a lot more than just a ”little something”, especially considering Lisa is going to make a run to where she wants to go anyway, and the little extra gas for going by Mom’s place on the way can only be worth about a nickel or a dime.

Happy anniversary!  And may you have many more joyous years together.

Love,

Brian

It was so fun to spend time with you and your family in September. I'm so glad you reached out to me as I enjoyed reconnecting with your family. I especially enjoyed the dinner where I was able to meet/reconnect with so many of your kids and their families. I'm so glad we're still keeping in touch via Tonia's zoom meeting. Happy 50th anniversary!! Love, Lori Lyn

50 years later and all that glitters is indeed gold!  While I can’t say I remember your first days, we were excited for your anniversary every year growing up.  I still think of it every Sept 4th.  I remember at about age 10 seeing an ad in the paper for a couple beautiful little hand-painted, ceramic birds at ZCMI, which we decided would be the perfect anniversary gift.  Somehow we got Lisa and/or David to go get them with whatever money we came up with.  Do you remember that?

From both of you we’ve had good examples of how to work hard, be engaged in good things, do our best, look out for others, and stay on track.  As a teenager I remember Dad waking me up on Sat because I'd missed my appointment to do the yard for an older ward member, and instead of lecturing me for being lazy he just said how these old ladies don't have much going on in their lives and it really impacts them.  This made me more responsible than any appointment reminder.  Of course, when we were small sometimes he'd come home to find the hatchet planted in the backyard lawn, or discover that his power drill had the chuck smashed by vice grips because we didn’t know how to use the chuck key (it’s still that way and he’s still using it!), or come across our little benches and bike ramps we built after getting into the woodpile and hammer/nails.  I remember each time we had a date activity Mom stayed up until every hour to not only see that we got home all right but to hear what we thought about it and how we liked it.  You both came to our graduations and significant events, and I remember in particular when both of you drove to Provo literally just to be with me for an hour when things were toughest for me.  You’ve taught us compassion, long-suffering, perseverance, how to love and laugh and learn.

I hope you have a great day -- today and always -- thinking back on what you've accomplished in these years and the examples you are to all of us and others.  May today be almost as special for you as the day I was born.  (Pause -- ha, ha, just kidding.)  Clearly we kids have as much to be thankful for today as you do!  Happy 50th Anniversary; we love you.
